Trip to Namibia - A new way of living
In Early October, we spent a week in South Africa & Namibia to visit some family and friends.
Namibia is the other side of the world for me, who was born and raised in Hong Kong my whole life, I can easily believe that some of my mates haven't even heard of this place. So foreign & strange, and in reality, it did take me some time to get used to the dry and cool climate, open spaces, and the connection with nature.
It was a very rushed trip (especially missing our first flight from Jo-burg to Namibia). In a short few days, we have been to Windhoek, then traveled to Swakopmund, and Spitzkoppe, then visited where the dunes meet the sea & Sandwich Harbor.
Stunned by the scenery of Namibia, it was also another way to look at nature for a city girl like me. I would never imagine wild kudos & warthogs outside of our home. To see lively animals but also decayed & rotten bodies of seals & jackals by the shore. Or even the skull of a human from 100 -200 years ago by the ocean. The nature is beautiful but haunting as well.
In Hong Kong we are living such a lush life, the more I think about the way we live, the more I think of how we are spoiled and how little we know and are willing to care for nature.
This inspiring video I came across another day on YouTube while drawing got me to rethink a bit of how we say we value the nature of being human in the city V.S. from another perspective.
Namibia, I will see you again in Feb!
